Evaluation 3

What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Our final product was shown to a group of people and then each were interviewed on what they saw.

1. Can you identify the genre of the film, if so, how?

Most of those who watched the film saw it as being a horror film due to typical horror features such as hooded figures and children's toys rather than it actually being scary. No one identified that it was specifically a Gothic horror film but understood it as being historical from the costume and lack of technology. We understood that doing a Gothic horror would be a challenge since the costume and setting is key, to improve we would have to include more typical Gothic horror tropes.

2. What did you find interesting?

Many noticed that there was a complete lack of gore and violence, and that music and use of still images was relied on to create tension instead. All reacted positively to the lack of dialogue which left us satisfied because we decided to do that as one of the reasons was that the film may look amateurish with dialogue because of the possibility of bad acting.

3. What can be improved on?

There were split opinions on the plot; many people liked the ambiguity of the plot as they thought it created intrigue and left it open to interpretation. Others found the plot confusing and that perhaps showing the background story of the main character would have been better. Someone also commented that if the hallucinations were meant to be disconcerting then we should have been more experimental with them. I agree to what they had said, however due to a limited budget, there was only so much we could do without it looking cheap and amateurish. I also agree that the plot was confusing and that we should have made things clearer for the audience by giving the character a background story.
