The IMR stands for the Institutional Mode of Representation. This is the style of film which developed during the classic era of Hollywood and continues to this day.

The Primitive Style

• Classical Hollywood's continuity system
• Techniques include frontal staging or a tableau style, exaggerated gestures, hardly any camera movement, and lack POV shots
• Early cinema was silent and unsophisticated and is more like a melodramatic mime.
